This study was commissioned to identify best practice regarding both the provision and the incentivisation of the use of financial guidance services. It is based on desk research, a literature review, an on-line survey and interviews in seven countries: Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom between January and July 2016. It investigates the following aspects of financial guidance services: the extent and nature of the needs; national planning; the nature of current provision; business models and funding; how services are promoted and use is incentivised; effectiveness and quality of services; regulation, quality assurance and access to redress.

IODS et l’Observatoire de l’Epargne Européenne ont livré au Bureau Européen des Unions de Consommateurs (BEUC) une étude intitulée : « The Savings Accounts Market in Europe : a Dormant Market ? » L’étude compare les taux d’intérêt offerts sur les livrets d’épargne dans les différents pays européens. En théorie, les épargnants pourraient tirer avantage d’un marché réellement pan-européen. Mais la réglementation, la fiscalité et les pratiques commerciales limitent ou empêchent en réalité ces flux transfrontières. De ce fait, les produits d’épargne proposés aux non-résidents, lorsqu’ils existent, sont souvent différents de ceux réservés aux résidents.
Pension Savings: The Real Return - 2015 Edition

Better Finance, in collaboration with IODS, published the latest edition of its "Pensions Savings: The Real Return" report which widely broadens the geographical coverage of the initial research report by Better Finance entitled “Private Pensions: the Real Return” first published in June 2013. Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom have been added to the initial group composed of Spain, France and Denmark. It also extends the period of time covered in order to measure performance over 15 years from 2000 to 2014 as far as data was available. The goal of the study is to calculate the return of private pension products after charges, taxes and inflation.

Data gathering and impact assessment on implementing measures for the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive and Regulation

A consortium of CEPS (Centre for European Policy Studies) and IODS, with TABB Group as subcontractor, was appointed by ESMA to gather data and assess the impact of implementing measures for the Market in Financial Instruments Directive and Regulation (MIFID and MIFIR). The project started following the agreement in trilogue on updated rules for MIFID II reached on January 14, 2014. MIFID II constitutes an important step aimed at establishing a safer, sounder, more transparent and more responsible financial system. On IODS side, the project will be conducted by Didier Davydoff and Bénédicte Doumayrou. Bénédicte, former Head of Markets and Market Infrastructures, Regulation Policy and International Affairs at AMF (Autorité des Marchés Financiers) joined IODS in January 2014. The three partners will be mandated to cover as many as 33 areas of MIFID and MIFIR. The kick-off meeting of the project with ESMA took place in Paris on January 28, 2014.
Private Pensions: The Real Return

EuroFinUse has asked IODS to conduct a study on real returns of retirement products in four European countries: Belgium, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom. IODS will be responsible to extend the geographical scope of a previous study published by EuroFinUse in 2012 on the same topic about Denmark, France and Spain. The goal of the study is to calculate the return of private pension products after charges, taxes and inflation and to identify the contributing factors for these returns.

This study is unique because, for the first time, the long-term trends of shareholding in Europe are presented, and measurement of intra-European flows of investments in shares is enabled.
